The first glimmers of hope
- NOLA.com reports 17th St. Levee Closed. There have been false statements of progress from Federal officials in the past, and I will try to get additional confirmation that this is true.
- Mayor Nagin said Sunday that pumping the water out of the city would likely be a matter of days, not months.
- An email from a gentleman indicates that the Vietnamese-Americans stranted in the Versailles subdivision (see earlier post) are rescued, but I have no news sources.
This it not a good note below. And I have virtually no information on Plaquemines Parish, except one eyewitness flyover saying east Plaquemines was "gone".
- St. Bernard Parish President Junior Rodriguez said his parish has been at "the end of the line". (Apologies for referncing him earlier as a police juror, a role he held for decades prior the parish).
"And when we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard nor welcome, but when we are silent we are still afraid. So it is better to speak remembering we were never meant to survive." -- Audie Lorde
