BBC reports military was ready, but the order to help came to late

On the BBC World News, a Lieutenant Commander Sean Kelly was interviewed about the preparation made in advance of the storm by the Northern Command:

NorthCom started planning before the storm even hit. We were ready for the storm when it hit Florida because, as you remember, it crossed the bottom part of Florida, and then we were plaining, you know, once it was pointed towards the Gulf Coast. So what we did was we activated what we call defense coordinating officers to work with he state to say okay, what do you think you'll need, and we set up staging bases that could be started. We had the USS Baton sailing almost behind the hurricane so that after the hurricane made landfall it's search and rescue helicopters would be available almost immediately. So we had things ready. The only caveat is, we have to wait until the President authorizes us to do so. The laws of the United States say that the military can't just act in this fashion, we have to wait for the President to give us permission."

Link from a viewer who extracted it from a TIVO; BBC does not do transcripts, their email tells me:

I think that speaks for itself.

In other news, the hospital ship reported to have sailed for New Orleans at the start of the week left today.

Update: From the source of this info: "This was on the episode of BBC World News which played on a local (Philadelphia area) PBS station at 6:00 am this morning." I can't find it on BBC.co.uk news site either. However I'm leaving it up for now as it is entirely consistent with events, and was viewed by multiple individuals.

This is beyond incompetence...this is criminal. You've gotta wonder who ties Mr. Bush's shoes when he rolls out of the sack in the morning - or does he have help doing that, also? National Public Radio, was heard this afternoon trying to paint the almost total lack of governmental response to this tragedy in racial terms....bu they've only touched the tip of the problem with this administration: it isn't simply that they don't care about *blacks*...the Group of Thugs sitting inside the beltline cares about NOBODY!!! - except of course their obscenely rich cronies. s/al_bedo

From a report from Malik Rahim, a veteran of the Black Panther Party in New Orleans on sfbayview.com:

'This is criminal': Malik Rahim reports from New Orleans
Editorial: '... Their neighborhood could be sheltering and feeding at least 40,000 refugees, he says, but they are allowed to help no one. What he describes is nothing less than deliberate genocide against Black and poor people.'
Malik Rahim: '... We have Amtrak here that could have carried everybody out of town. There were enough school buses that could have evacuated 20,000 people easily, but they just let them be flooded. My son watched 40 buses go underwater - they just wouldn't move them, afraid they'd be stolen. ... This is criminal. These people are dying for no other reason than the lack of organization. ...'

Why would insane Leftist moonbats want the police or military in N.O. at all?
Aren't they all Nazis doing genocide for Murkkka?
God, kwitcherbitchin! You're not paying any attention to Saint Mother Sheehan...

God, kwitcherbitchin?

Well, err... Matthew 25: 41 - 46:
"41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' 44 Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?' 45 Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' 46 And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
