AP/WWL-TV: Water begins to recede
The WWL-TV website Katrina blog contains a terse announcement that water has receded as much as two feet, but doesn't say where.
I suspect it is in the lower Ninth Ward, as it was observed (at least by me, if no one else) that the NBC footage of the St. Caude Ave. Bridge clearly showed water flowing out of the Lower Ninth Ward.
NOLA.com notes no progress on the 17th St. Canal levee, and problems finding a way to raise the necessary lift bridges to get the barges of damming supplies to the site. This would indicate that the water is most likely going down east of the Industrial Canal, but not in the central city.
No report on the results of efforts by Jefferson Parish to dam the 17th St. Canal flow to prevent it re-flooding East Jefferson. The water was pouring through the I-10 interchange on Wednesday.
