The Lowlights
- The twin spans of I-10 over the Rigolets are destroyed. The Causeway is not, but is open of course only to emergecy traffic.
- Cable News reports the CBD is not flooded. But confirmed reports of flooding at Tulane University Medical Center lead me to say, details, details.
- The French Quarter is either taking water or not, depending on who you ask. It should be among the last to take water. And it might depend on what you mean by "The French Quarter". Discerning souls will point out that Frenchman St. is not in the Quarter, and a foot of water is not really "flooding" in NOLA.
- There is a rumour of a levee break in the canal seperating Lake Terrace from the University of New Orleans, with more extensive flooding on the east side of that canal, but it remains a rumour.
- I never thought I'd say this, but Aaron Broussard seems to be worth his weight in middlin' Creole politicians (or at least, mayors). Who'd have thought you'd ever hear me say such a thing?
- Why isn't a single news radio station streaming media in NOLA? The published WTIX URL was dead, and WWL-AM doesn't bother with such things. WWOZ was on until midnight Sunday, but I was looking for news. Yeah, I know all the problems with advertising, music rights, etc.
- Call me picky, but couldn't the Picayune have at least managed a short run broadsheet or something for distribution in the shelters? The PDF-only Tuesday edition is here: http://www.nola.com/hurricane/katrina/
